To beeswax or not to beeswax?
To beeswax or not to beeswax?
Everything you wanted to know about paw balms but were
afraid to ask!
We have had so many questions regarding our paw balms, What is the best one? Can I use this on my puppy? Is this suitable for older dogs?
So I thought I would do a little blog to understand our paw balms and see what is the best for your four legged hairy friend.
When it comes to paw balm it one of my Libby's favourites, in fact if the lid is not on the jar then its full on tongues!
When it comes to choosing your paw balm there is only one main consideration, that is to either to choose a paw balm with or without beeswax.
There are some schools of thought that beeswax is not suitable for puppies (dogs under six months), in the processing of organic beeswax it is not possible to fully remove all traces of pollen.
There have been recent articles that link exposure to pollen in the first months can potentially lead to allergy problems later later years, I have to stress that there are no clinical studies to confirm the findings, so when formulating our paw balms we we have a beeswax and non beeswax option to allow you the choice.
With traditional beeswax paw balms, like our Paw No,1, No.2 and No.3 these are a formulated using organic beeswax, unrefined shea butter, olive oil and calendula oil (marigold flower oil) the beeswax creates a protective layer over the pad to lock in moisture, the unrefined shea butter moisturises and again a protective layer, it is also a natural anti-inflammatory to soothe and natural anti-bacterial, the olive oil moisturises the pad and the calendula oil is also a natural anti-inflammatory.
Our beeswax free alternative paw balm, like our Paw No.5 is formulated using organic unrefined shea butter and sweet almond oil, the unrefined shea butter moisturises and again a protective layer, it is also a natural anti-inflammatory to soothe and natural anti-bacterial, the sweet almond oil moisturises the pad
